This is a great dedicated auto flashgun from Olympus for the classic OM series 35mm SLR cameras including the OM-2N, OM-2SP, OM-4, OM40 and many others (see the Compatibility section below for a full list). It’s powerful, offers dedicated auto flash including TTL control with suitable cameras, and has a tilting head for bounce flash. It can also be used in non-dedicated mode on Olympus and many other digital cameras (see the Compatibility section below). This one is in good condition with instruction manuals and Alkaline batteries.

The flash reflector tilts up to 90 degrees upwards for bounce flash, which gives softer, more natural lighting than direct flash. It can also be tilted down a few degrees to prevent it missing the subject for close ups! The coverage is very wide (suitable for lenses down to around 24mm on film, or the equivalent on digital).

TTL (Through The Lens) dedicated auto exposure control with suitable OM cameras (see below) for the most accurate exposure. You can choose between the camera’s aperture priority or program modes, and manual mode can be used on all OM cameras. The camera’s viewfinder indicates when the flash is charged, and auto models also confirm correct exposure after the picture has been taken.

Three normal auto modes are provided for use on non-TTL cameras, plus manual operation at full or half power. Can also be used for auto fill-in flash in daylight, filling in the shadows for portraits, etc. Guide number is 32 (meters) and 104 (feet) with ISO 100 film. Theoretical maximum range is therefore up to around 22m (74 feet) with an f/1.4 lens. Even an f/2.8 lens will give the same range with ISO 400 film, but as with all flash units, actual performance will depend on the conditions.

The rear of the flash has a comprehensive set of exposure scales, with apertures from f/1.4 to f/22, distances from 0.5m to 100m(!) and film speeds from ISO 25 to 1600. There are also flash ready and auto check lights. The control panel can be reversed for TTL auto flash control on suitable cameras.

The flash is powered by four standard AA batteries, which are inexpensive and easily obtainable. You can use disposable alkaline batteries (supplied), or rechargeable NiCd or NiMH types. Sockets are provided for external power supplies and an extensive range of off-camera flash accessories (not included), such as grips, leads and multi-flash connectors.
